Sunshine Surf Morocco is a surfcamp located in Tamraght in the region of Agadir, Kingdom of Morocco a. Due to its convenient geographical position, it is the best place for European surfers to enjoy top waves, sunshine and warm weather all year long at the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. A short 40 min drive from Agadir international airport, which is a short hop (2-4 hrs) from most central European cities.
The easiest way to get to Agadir is by flying to Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA). Served by Royal Air Maroc, British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair, Thomas Cook, TUI, Transavia. The flying time from London is just three hours, from other major European airports it will take between 2-5 hours. If you are traveling from the USA, you can connect either in Casablanca or at a European airport, as there are no direct flights to Agadir. From Agadir Al Massira Airport it’s a 40 min drive North along the picturesque coastal road. If you find it more convenient you can also fly to Marrakech Menara Airport (which offers connections to all over Europe) – we will be able to arrange a transfer for you. Just inform us beforehand. Agadir is 160 miles from Marrakech and it takes just about two hours to drive on the new motorway; it will cost approx. 100€ for 4 people.
For EU passport holders, as well as Russian Federation, USA and New Zealand citizens a Visa is not required to enter Morocco for tourist purposes. You can stay in Morocco for up to 90 days and your passport should be valid for at least 6 months before your return date. The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham, denoted as MAD or Dhs. It’s a rather stable currency and exchange rates are around 11.20 dhs to the 1€, 14 dhs to 1£ and 8.20dhs to 1$. The Dirham is officially designated as a closed currency meaning it can only be traded within Morocco , however, Dirhams are being sold and bought at travel agencies and major airports in several countries (notably the UK). You will find exchange facilities and ATMs in the Moroccan airports and plenty of ATMs in Agadir. Please note that there are no ATM’s in Tamraght, the nearest one is in Aourir, a 5 minute drive from Tamraght. Most ATMs in Morocco do not accept Maestro, if you have a VISA card this would be a better solution. It is advisable not to take travelers cheques as it is very difficult to find a bank that will cash them, the commission rates are high and are charged per cheque.
There aren’t problems with connection in Morocco nearly all networks and operators work here. In Tamraght you’ll find a plenty of public phones, which work with coins and phone cards (available to buy in all shops). The charges for international calls are relatively low. In our surf camp there is free high-speed wi-fi and in Tamraght you will find broadband internet cafes.
Sunshine Surf Morocco is open all year round and it is not for nothing! Morocco is an all year outstanding surf holiday destination. We are situated in Tamraght, inbetween Agadir and Taghazout where the weather is always warm. During the winter months it is advisable to bring a 4/3 or 3/2 wetsuit. During the summer months the water is warming up and you should be okay with a summer suit (2/2 or 3/2).
The swell during summer is most of the times small to medium (from May to September), but you will still find glassy and bigger waves. During winter the swells are more consistent and you will find some big sets rolling in. The Moroccan coast is famous for its huge variety of surf, the region has something for everyone, from ideal beginner waves to challenging reef ledges, no one will be disappointed! The sun shines in Morocco for at least 300 days a year. The weather is mild. Between November and February with a small chance of rain, although statistically it is quite unlikely.
With the big variety of waves it is difficult to give you the perfect advise. But bring the equipment to suit your ability and the swells you would like to surf. Mid-winter waves can get up to 15ft, so if you want to surf them, bring something suitable. Sunshine Surf Morocco provides you with everything you need for your surf holiday; A range of diffrent size surfboards and wetsuits. These are all included in the full package price.
Morocco is one of the most tolerant Muslim countries out there. Shorts, t-shorts, flip-flops are all suitable. Swimming costumes and bikinis are normal on the beach. However, if you are walking in the town it is advisable to cover your hands and don’t wear your shortest shorts. Just respect the local customs. Also bring some warm clothes for the winter period, as evenings can be quite chilly.
You’ll be impressed with the variety and taste of the local cuisine! It is known all over the world. Our chef will prepare a mixture of Moroccan and international dishes each week for you to enjoy at the surfcamp.
At the surf camp we provide bath towels however please, bring your own beach towels.
